“The Presbyterian Church at Milton was built in 1834 upon land purchased from Thara Messick, on Aug. 3, 1833. The church had been incorporated on July 4, 1833 at a meeting held in the Cool Spring Pres. Meeting-House. In 1865, the congregation was dissolved. In the adjoining cemetery the oldest inscribed tombstone is dated 1844. For many years the old cypress-shingled building was used as a school and later as a colored church. At the present time it is occupied by a colored lodge.” (1)
