STATE BOARD OF REGISTRATION FOR PROFESSIONAL
ENGINEERS AND LAND SURVEYORS
In 1941 the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors was established by the legislature to regulate the practices of professional engineers and land surveyors. The Board consisted of four professional engineers and three land surveyors, who were commissioned by the Governor. The appointments varied between three and four years. The Board was required to have at least one regular meeting each year, and to provide for special meetings as needed. The board’s responsibilities were as follows:

1. Issue the requirements for registration for professional engineers and land surveyors.
2. Regulate examination of applicants for registration.
3. Grant certificates of registration to those who had successfully completed the requirements.
4. Revoke certificates of registration when necessary.1
In 1969 the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors was placed under the auspices of the Department of Administrative Services, the Division of Business and Occupational Regulation.2
In 1971 a law was passed separating the regulations concerning professional engineers from regulations concerning the professional land surveyors. The Delaware Association of Professional Engineers, a prive organization grew out of this act in order to regulate the practice of engineering. The Council of the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers, a private organization grew out of this act in order to regulate the practice of engineering. The Council of the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers was created to serve as the governing body for the association. The separation of regulations also resulted in the establishment of the Board of Registration for Professional Land Surveyors.3
