SC-268: originally installed on 10/15/2018.

John I. “Jack” Lewis (1912-2012) moved to Delaware in 1936 as an artist with the Civilian Conservation Corps tasked with documenting activities at CCC camps in the state. After serving in the Pacific with the U.S. Army during World War II, he returned to Delaware and lived in Bridgeville for forty years. During that time Lewis continued painting and taught art in public schools and at Delaware Technical Community College. Lewis’ paintings and murals documented Delaware history and daily life in rural communities. His artwork can still be found throughout the state in private homes, businesses, and public buildings.
