COUNCIL ON ARCHIVES AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS
In 1970, the Council on Archives and Cultural Affairs was established within the Department of State. This Council serves as an advisor to the Director of Archives and Cultural Affairs considering matters relating to the care and preservation of historic buildings, sites or objects; the perpetuation of our national heritage and culture; and other matters referred to it by the Governor, Secretary of State, or the Director of Archives and Cultural Affairs. Its members are authorized to study, research, plan and advise the Director, the Secretary, and the Governor on matters it deems necessary to efficiently operate the Division of Archives and Cultural Affairs. The Council consists of the members of the Public Archives Commission, the Lewes Memorial Commission, the Delaware Day Commission, the Portrait Commission, the Delaware Archaeological Board, the Chairman of the Delaware State Arts Council, and the Poet Laureate, who shall serve as a member of ex-officio. Council members have access to all books, records, reports, and documents relating to the Division of Archives and Cultural Affairs. Lastly, they are responsible for submitting an annual report to the Secretary of State, the Governor, and the General Assembly.¹
