It is that time:  the sounds of the midway, the excitement of seeing your favorite act, the sounds of crunching at the demolition derby, and the smell of all sorts of deep fried items.  It’s Delaware State Fair week. Woo hoo!!!

Did you know that it used to be called the Kent- Sussex Fair? So what’s your favorite part of the fair?  The exhibits? The shows? The food?  We have old programs, annual reports to stock holders, and photographs.  We have correspondence in the governor’s papers.  We also  have books and newspaper clippings.

To learn more about the history of the State Fair check out the Delaware Library Catalog for the following books:

History of the Delaware State Fair : (formerly the Kent & Sussex County Fair) : in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Fair in 1919  by Delaware State Fair, Inc.

History of the Kent and Sussex County Fair

The History of Agricultural Fairs in Delaware  by Saralee Webb Towers
