Sussex County Markers

GOVERNOR JOHN COLLINS


Here stood Collins Forge, a bloomery iron works that smelted Sussex bog ore from 1812 until 1850. Governor John Collins (1775-1821) and his son Theophilius, operators of the forge, are buried nearby.

LOCATION: On State Road 404/18 (Seashore Highway), south side, opposite of Collins Pond.
