In 1952, students at the Edge Moor School took part in the first statewide civil defense drill.

Taking Precautions

The first air raid alert for schools in Delaware was in the spring of 1952. All went well at the schools in Wilmington except for the parochial schools that had not been notified of the drill. The following week Kent County had a successful drill with all students sheltered in less then ten minutes. One remote rural school was delayed since its telephone was on a party line.
