The Crooked Billet Historical Marker recognizes the Crooked Billet property, which William Penn deeded to Adam Stedham in 1684. Stedham’s son expanded a small stone home into a tavern known as the Crooked Billet in 1702. The tavern operated until 1811 when the property became a family farm. The du Pont Family owned the Crooked Billet property from 1864-2016.
