 ation of Independence\, which marked the colonies’ break from British 
 rule. 2026 also marks the 250th anniversary of the State of Delaware d
 eclaring its independence from Pennsylvania.\n\nIn this presentation\,
  we will examine the early days of the Lower Counties on the Delaware 
 under the proprietary governance of William Penn and his successors. W
 e will delve into the conditions that ultimately led them to seek sepa
 ration and form an independent state. We will look at some of the chal
 lenges faced by the nascent state as it recovered from the economic an
 d social tolls of the War of Independence. And finally\, how “Separati
 on Day” came to be celebrated in the City of New Castle as a commemora
 tion of the founding of the State of Delaware.\n\nPresented by Leah Gr
