Genealogical and historical description:

Plots, deeds, surveys, surveyors notes, and other records relating to land in Kent and Sussex County, especially in the Milford area. These records were created and/or collected by the Davis and Lewis families.

Scope and Contents:

Plots are graphic depictions of property boundaries and may show boundary metes and bounds, names of adjoining property owners, the location of buildings, streams, roads, mills, and other features, land use (orchards, woodland, etc.), date of survey, and name of surveyor. The deeds are the original copies of land transfers or copies made from deed books. Surveys are narrative descriptions of the metes and bounds of property. Surveyors notes may be a listing of the courses defining a property or the field notes that the surveyor made. Other land records include leases, bonds, patents, accounts, articles of agreement, contracts, wills and probate records, and Orphans’ Court records.
