Pie eating contest in Lewes on July 4, 1950.
Eating His Way to Victory
The Lewes Chamber of Commerce planned another Forth of July festival in 1950. Second Street was closed at ten in the morning for the celebration which included all kinds of races, climbing a greasy pole, pie-eating contest and a baby and bicycle parade. About five hundred people attended the festivities. Winners of the pie-eating contest were Ralph Hazel, Ronald Hazel and Billy Aiken.
