100th Anniversary
Known as the Sussex County Obituary Record, the origins of this book are a mystery. However, the book lists the death dates of many Sussex Countians from 1826 to 1849.

Remembering the Deceased

The second from last name is Woolsey Waples who died in February of 1828, although they were not sure which day he died or how old he was when he died. In 1820, he was older than 45 years. Woolsey had a wife and eight children; he was a farmer and had one male slave and one black male indentured servant.

This obituary book is part of the miscellaneous tombstone and cemetery records. The collection includes records from small farms to large churches with cemeteries with all three counties represented.
